When I started my PCOS healing journey in 2024, I made a lot of changes — diet, exercise, hormonal support, sauna, stress management. But one of the smallest changes I made turned out to be one of the most meaningful: I threw out all of my plastic food containers.
I know that sounds simple. Maybe even obvious. But I had no idea how much those containers were working against me every single day — and once I understood the connection between microplastics and hormonal disruption, I couldn't unknow it.
"For women with PCOS, whose hormonal systems are already under stress, reducing daily exposure to endocrine disruptors isn't optional — it's essential."
Why plastic containers matter for PCOS
Plastics contain chemicals — BPA, phthalates, and others — that are known endocrine disruptors. That means they interfere with your body's hormonal signaling. For women with PCOS, whose hormonal systems are already dysregulated, this is a real problem. Every time you store hot food in a plastic container, microwave in one, or even just use an old scratched container, you're releasing microscopic plastic particles and chemicals directly into your food.
This was a meaningful piece of my healing. I'm not saying it's a cure — PCOS is complex and requires comprehensive care. But reducing my daily microplastic load was something I could control immediately, and I believe it made a real difference in how I felt and in my overall outcomes.
What we actually switched to
We went with glass. Specifically, we bought a large set — around 20 containers — of glass food storage containers from a brand called Razab, available on Amazon. We wanted enough to cover all of our food storage needs completely, so that plastic was never the default option out of convenience.
The adjustment takes time. Glass containers are heavier than plastic — that's just the reality. You'll notice it when you're unloading the dishwasher or packing a lunch. But you get used to it quickly, and ours have lasted beautifully. Be careful when handling them — treat them like you would any glass — but don't let that stop you. The durability more than makes up for the extra care.
The bottom line
I'm not here to tell you that switching your Tupperware will cure your PCOS. It won't. But I do believe that every source of hormonal disruption you remove from your daily life gives your body a better chance to heal. And this one is genuinely easy to do.
Buy enough containers to make glass the default, not the exception. We bought 20 and haven't looked back. It's one of the small decisions from 2024 that I believe contributed to a much bigger outcome — and it's one I'd make again without hesitation.
At Meadow, we look at the whole picture — your hormones, your gut, your stress, your environment. Because PCOS isn't just a medical condition. It's a whole-body experience. And healing it requires a whole-body approach.
